hedgehog bath time

For those of you who don't know, I have a pet hedgehog named Rico :) He is my favourite little ball of spikes!

While they are pretty low maintenance pets, giving a hedgehog a bath is one of the most frustrating things you have to do. They tend to squirm around and try to escape the whole time. It's a good thing you don't need to bathe them that often; just a few times a year.

Yum, a toothbrush!

After a bath comes the best part: cuddles! It is best to keep the hedgehog wrapped in a towel on your lap for 30 minutes to an hour to help it dry off. Otherwise you could use a blowdryer on the lowest setting but I find Rico is scared to death of the noise.

There is one thing that is worse than bathing a hedgie... Trying to clip their nails. It is an impossible feat! It's like they know you're coming after them so they try to keep their little feet hidden at all costs. However, I find the best time to clip a hedgehog's nails is after a bath. Their nails are softened from the water, and the bath usually tires them out pretty well so they don't try to fight you as much.

All clean!
